Fire safety education and sustainability go hand in hand, and now your fire department can play a crucial role in both. The Safety to the Max program, in partnership with Safe Kids Greater Toledo, is making fire prevention education more accessible while promoting environmental responsibility through aluminum recycling. This is your department’s opportunity to get involved, make a difference, and receive valuable resources to support fire safety education in your community!
How Your Fire Department Can Participate
Joining the Safety to the Max program is simple, and the benefits extend beyond fire safety. By participating, your department will:
Become a Member of Safe Kids Greater Toledo - At least one department member must sign up and join Safe Kids Greater Toledo to participate. This partnership ensures access to ongoing resources and collaboration with other fire safety advocates. Please join today by clicking HERE!
Receive a Recycle to the Max Bin - Each participating fire station will receive a designated Recycle to the Max bin to collect aluminum cans. These bins help support the program through recycling efforts while engaging your community in sustainability.

Recycle and Earn Educational Resources - When the bins are full, your department can choose to:
Drop off the collected aluminum at Kripke Recycling Center, specifying that the proceeds go to Safe Kids of Greater Toledo.
Bring the cans to a Safe Kids Fire Safety Committee meeting for processing.
Access Free Fire Safety Educational Materials - Once your department starts donating recycled cans, you will receive a promo code to order a Max Learns Fire Safety starter pack from the program’s website. The pack includes:
One Big Book for interactive teaching
One teaching board with Go-No-Go stickers
Five small classroom books
100 coloring books
This kit is perfect for educating pre-K to kindergarten students, making fire safety fun and engaging!
Expand Your Recycling Efforts - As your department continues to recycle, you will have access to free coloring books and additional fire safety educational materials. You will also become eligible to receive smoke and carbon monoxide alarms as they become available.
To further boost your department’s impact, you can expand the recycling effort by setting up a large recycling dumpster at your station or another location in your jurisdiction. This initiative encourages community-wide participation, allowing residents to contribute their aluminum cans and support fire safety education in the process.

Enhance fire safety education by providing essential learning tools for young children.
